Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the food analysis?
FoodScanner uses Google Gemini AI to analyse food labels and images. Accuracy depends on the clarity of the image and completeness of the ingredient list. For critical dietary decisions (e.g., severe allergies), always verify with the product manufacturer.
Are my food images stored?
No. Images are sent to Google's Vision and Gemini APIs for analysis only and are never stored on FoodScanner's servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I use the app without creating an account?
Yes. Guest mode lets you scan food without signing up. Guest scans are not saved to history. Sign up anytime to keep a record of your scans.
How do I set my diet type and allergens?
Go to the Preferences tab in the app. You can set your diet type (vegetarian, vegan, jain, eggetarian) and specify allergens. The app will highlight warnings tailored to your profile.
The scan result seems incorrect — what should I do?
Try rescanning with better lighting and ensure the ingredient list is fully visible. If you consistently get wrong results for a specific product, please email us at getfoodscan@gmail.com with the product name and image so we can investigate.
How do I delete my scan history?
Open the History tab, tap any scan, and use the delete option. You can also delete all history from the Profile screen.
How do I delete my account?
See our Delete Account page for step-by-step instructions. Account deletion is permanent and removes all your data.
The app is crashing or not working — what do I do?
Try force-closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall. Still having trouble? Email us at getfoodscan@gmail.com with your device model and Android version.
Is FoodScanner available on iOS?
Currently FoodScanner is available on Android only. iOS support is planned for a future release.
