FoodScanner is a mobile application that helps users identify whether food products are vegetarian, eggetarian, vegan, jain, or non-vegetarian by scanning food labels and packaging.

2. Information We Collect
Account information (if you sign in):
- Email address and display name (when signing up with email or Google)
- Google account profile information (when using Google Sign-In)
Food scan data:
- Photos you take or select for scanning — sent to Google Cloud Vision and Google Gemini APIs for analysis and not stored on our servers
- Scan results (product name, classification, detected allergens) saved to your scan history
Preferences:
- Your diet type and allergen preferences, stored to personalise analysis results
Usage data:
- Anonymous crash reports and performance data collected by Firebase to improve app stability
We do not collect location data, contacts, or any other device information.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To analyse food images and labels and return classification results to you
- To save your scan history so you can review past results
- To personalise analysis based on your diet and allergen preferences
- To authenticate your account and keep it secure
- To diagnose crashes and improve app performance
4. Third-Party Services
FoodScanner uses the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage) — firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google Cloud Vision API (OCR text extraction) — cloud.google.com/terms/cloud-privacy-notice
- Google Gemini API (AI-based food classification) — ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms
Images sent to the Vision and Gemini APIs are processed by Google and subject to Google's data usage policies. These images are not used to train Google's AI models under standard API usage terms.
5. Data Storage and Retention
- Account data and scan history are stored in Google Firebase Firestore, protected by security rules — only you can access your own data
- Food images are transmitted for analysis and are not permanently stored by FoodScanner
- You can delete your scan history at any time from within the app
- If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days
6. Guest Mode
You may use FoodScanner as a guest without creating an account. In guest mode, scan history is not saved and no personal information is collected beyond anonymous session data managed by Firebase Anonymous Authentication.
7. Children's Privacy
FoodScanner is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data — see Delete Account
- Export your scan history
- Object to or restrict processing of your data

9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including Firebase Authentication, HTTPS for all data in transit, and Firestore security rules to ensure your data is only accessible by you. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
